Michael “Mikey” Kayvon Maleki is a Berkeley, Calif-based multi-instrumentalist [guitar, winds, synthesis, keys, drums], composer, producer, and sound designer. Working at the intersection of acoustic and digital technologies, his practice centers on improvisation and reactive processes, with life experience and natural aesthetics serving as the guiding principles. He has created original scores and sound design for film, television, commercials, software, games, and dance. He has performed in venues, clubs, and galleries across North America, including Los Angeles, New York, and Montreal.

Math Magic : IOS App [Audio Brand: Audio Logo, UI Sound Effects, and Background Music]

In early 2025, Johnny Rodgers, Founding employee of Slack, reached out about a new iOS app / educational tool he was designing to make mathematics engaging and accessible for children. The project called for a complete sonic identity: an audio logo, UI sound effects, and background music that would create a calming yet stimulating learning environment.

Over the course of a month, I collaborated closely with Johnny to develop an integrated audio ecosystem consisting of custom UI sounds and four original background music tracks. The soundscape was carefully crafted to support the app's flow while maintaining a balance between engagement and tranquility. A particularly personal touch came through the audio logo, which incorporated recordings of his children's voices alongside those of their friends, adding warmth and authenticity to the user experience.
